Part-time jobs for school pupils in Amsterdam

Even if you’re still at school, you can gain work experience at Henri Willig. Depending on your age and the roles available, you could, for example, work at weekends, during the holidays or at other times alongside your studies. Among other things, you’ll learn:

  • welcoming and assisting customers;
  • selling and advising;
  • working as part of a team;
  • how to communicate;
  • dealing with international visitors;
  • product knowledge;
  • taking responsibility.

The Junior Academy has been specially developed for young people aged 14 to 21 and combines work with learning and personal development.

A large proportion of our shops are situated in busy locations in Amsterdam. For example, shops around:

In our Cheese Farm Stores, the world of the cheese farm takes centre stage. Here, it’s not just about selling cheese, but also about the story behind Henri Willig, Dutch cheese-making and our farms. You’ll be working in an environment with a distinct rural and artisanal feel. At Cheese Farm Stores, this also includes traditional Dutch costume. This makes the work particularly recognisable to visitors and ensures an authentic experience.

In our Cheese & More shops, it’s about more than just cheese. Alongside our cheeses, you’ll find a range of other Dutch and international delicacies and gift items. These shops have a more modern look, and you’ll wear an apron and a polo shirt whilst working here.

From a part-time job to the next step

A part-time job doesn’t have to end as soon as you graduate. At Henri Willig, you can continue to develop your skills. You might start as a school pupil or student and later progress to a role as a sales assistant, senior sales assistant, Assistant Store Manager or Store Manager. The Henri Willig Academy offers training courses in areas such as product knowledge, customer service, sales and storytelling.

At what age can I start working at Henri Willig?

The Junior Academy offers opportunities for young people aged 14 to 21. The types of work and roles available depend, amongst other things, on your age and the current vacancies.

As a student, can I work part-time in Amsterdam?

Yes. Depending on the vacancy, there are part-time roles and casual jobs available. The Junior Academy focuses specifically on flexible working alongside school or university studies.

 

Can I work at the weekend?

Weekend and holiday work is possible for most roles. Please check the current job vacancy for specific working hours.

 

Do I need experience?

No. For many junior roles, previous work experience is not essential. Enthusiasm, a welcoming attitude and a willingness to learn are important.

 

Do I need to speak Dutch?

No, you don’t need to speak Dutch in the shops in Amsterdam.  As you’ll meet lots of international visitors in Amsterdam, English is a must, and any other foreign languages are definitely a plus!
